The photographs in this series are portraits of Kochi, Japan, taken in 2000. I decided to photograph the city where I was born and raised to preserve it in my memory. However, when the time came to photograph Kochi, I had no idea. I asked a friend where to take pictures. I even bought postcards and tried to use them as references.

In the end, the advice did not give me any tips on how to shoot. The postcard pictures were beautiful, but not what I had in mind. Photography is about capturing what I feel about a subject. Therefore, the portraits in Kochi should not only be beautiful pictures, but also a place where I can reflect my feelings...

このシリーズの写真は、2000年に撮影した高知県のポートレートである。自分が生まれ育った街を撮影し、記憶に残そうと思った。しかし、いざ高知の写真を撮ろうと思っても、まったく見当がつきませんでした。友人に「どこで撮ればいいのか？絵葉書も買ってきて、参考にしようとした。

結局、アドバイスから撮影のヒントを得ることはできませんでした。ポストカードの画像はきれいでしたが、私が思い描いていたものとは違っていました。写真とは、被写体に対して自分の心の中にあるものを写し取ることです。だから、高知でのポートレートは、美しい画像だけでなく、自分の気持ちを映し出す場でなければならない...。
